AirPort Extreme Slow Wifi

Hi,

I have tried everything to set-up my airport extreme, however I keep getting super slow wifi speeds.

Here is my current set-up.

Basement --> Modem (bridged) is connected to apple airport extreme (running latest firmware)

Top floor --> Another airport extreme acting as an extender to the network for better signal

2.4 ghz radio channel 11 (seems to be the least used in my area)

5 ghz radio channel 163 (not 1 5ghz channel in my area)

Although I did try various channel options. The fastest I am able to get using 5ghz is about 40mbps, while 10-30mbps on 2.4ghz.

My internet is 1 gpbs connection that is 1000mbps.

Please advise, I am expecting at least to be obtaining 150-200 wireless speeds . . .

Using a wireless connection between base stations for extending the Wi-Fi network will offer the worst possible overall bandwidth performance. You would get much better results if they could be interconnected by Ethernet or power-line adapters.

If that is not possible, or practical and still need the connection to be wireless, the only other choice is to adjust the location of the extending base station so that it is in the best possible signal quality range of the base station that it is extending.

For details on how to do that, check out the following AirPort User tip. Please post back your results.

In addition to placement, the other will be any form of Wi-Fi interference in the area. The walls/floors/ceiling building material at your home is one form of this kind of interference.

The other issue is extending by wireless is the overall bandwidth loss due to maintaining an extended network. Roughly each base station added to extend wirelessly, cuts the overall bandwidth in half.
